Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a highly specialized architectural firm with a focus on healthcare facilities, is seeking a dedicated Healthcare Design Architect for their Nelspruit, Mpumalanga office. This critical role involves designing and delivering state-of-the-art healthcare environments, including hospitals, clinics, and specialized medical centers. You will collaborate closely with medical professionals, hospital administrators, and engineering teams to understand the unique functional, technical, and patient-centric requirements of healthcare design. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of healthcare planning principles, medical equipment integration, infection control standards, and relevant building codes and regulations specific to healthcare facilities in South Africa. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design of complex healthcare projects, from conceptualization through construction documentation.
• Collaborate with healthcare clients and stakeholders to define project requirements and design goals.
• Develop detailed space plans and layouts for hospitals, clinics, and other medical facilities.
• Ensure designs comply with healthcare-specific building codes, accessibility standards, and infection control protocols.
• Integrate medical equipment requirements and workflow considerations into the architectural design.
• Coordinate with specialized consultants, including medical equipment planners and MEP engineers.
• Prepare presentations and design reports for clients and regulatory bodies.
• Conduct site analyses and feasibility studies for healthcare development projects.
• Oversee construction administration for healthcare projects to ensure adherence to design intent and quality standards.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and innovations in healthcare facility design and technology.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 8 years of architectural experience, with a significant focus on healthcare facility design.
• Demonstrated experience in designing hospitals, clinics, or other complex medical environments.
• In-depth knowledge of healthcare planning, medical workflows, and equipment integration.
• Proficiency in architectural design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp.
• Strong understanding of relevant healthcare building codes, regulations, and infection control standards in South Africa.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and client management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet demanding deadlines.
• Experience with BIM for healthcare projects is highly desirable.
• Professional registration with SACAP is preferred.
