Placements24 is seeking a Lead Technical Artist specializing in VFX to join a forward-thinking game studio. The role is based in Mahikeng, North West, ZA, with a fully remote arrangement, enabling you to contribute from anywhere.

You will bridge art and engineering, optimize VFX pipelines, and guide the VFX team to deliver high-fidelity real-time effects while optimizing performance across platforms. A strong portfolio and 7+ years in the field are required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as a Technical Artist or VFX Artist in the game industry.
• Proven experience leading a technical art or VFX team.
• Expertise in one or more real-time VFX creation tools (e.g., Houdini, EmberGen, Niagara).
• Strong proficiency in shader development (HLSL, GLSL, or similar).

Responsabilités

• Develop, optimize, and maintain VFX pipelines, tools, and workflows for real-time applications.
• Create high-quality visual effects using industry-standard software.
• Collaborate with designers, artists, and engineers to define VFX requirements.
• Profile and optimize VFX assets and shaders for performance across platforms.
• Mentor and guide junior technical artists and VFX artists.
• Research and implement new technologies to enhance visual quality and performance.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues related to VFX implementation.
• Establish and enforce best practices for VFX asset creation and integration.
• Document tools, workflows, and specifications for the VFX team.
