Placements24 client, a cutting-edge game development studio in Soweto, seeks a Senior VFX Artist to design, implement, and optimize real-time visual effects for gameplay, cinematics, and UI.

You will work closely with designers, animators, and programmers to deliver visually stunning effects that are performant across platforms, while mentoring junior artists in a collaborative Soweto studio.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a VFX Artist in the game industry.
• Strong portfolio showcasing a wide range of real-time VFX work for games.
• Proficiency in VFX creation tools within game engines like Unreal Engine (Niagara) or Unity (VFX Graph).
• Experience with 2D and 3D art software for creating textures, sprites, and simple models.
• Solid understanding of particle systems, shaders, and animation principles.
• Experience optimizing VFX for performance on various hardware.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and adapt to project needs.
• A keen eye for detail, timing, and visual impact.
• Passion for creating exciting and dynamic visual effects.

Responsibilities

• Design and create high-quality real-time visual effects for gameplay, cinematics, and UI.
• Utilize particle systems, shaders, and animation techniques to achieve desired visual outcomes.
• Collaborate with art directors and designers to define the aesthetic and technical requirements for VFX.
• Optimize VFX assets for performance and memory usage across target platforms.
• Work within established art pipelines and contribute to their improvement.
• Integrate VFX into the game engine (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Stay current with the latest trends and technologies in real-time VFX.
• Create supporting assets such as textures, flipbooks, and simple meshes for VFX.
• Ensure visual consistency and high quality across all visual effects.
• Mentor junior VFX artists and provide constructive feedback.
