About the Role

A leading financial institution located in Randburg , Gauteng, is seeking a highly experienced and seasoned Head of Internal Audit. This senior leadership role is responsible for developing and executing the internal audit strategy, overseeing all audit activities, and ensuring the company maintains strong internal controls and robust risk management practices. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in auditing complex financial systems, a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, and exceptional leadership capabilities to manage a team of auditors. This is a pivotal position within the governance framework of the organization in Randburg .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the annual internal audit plan based on risk assessments.
• Lead and manage the internal audit team, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
• Oversee the execution of audits across various departments, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, identifying control weaknesses and recommending remediation actions.
• Report audit findings and recommendations to the Audit Committee of the Board and senior management.
• Follow up on the implementation of audit recommendations to ensure timely and effective closure.
• Stay updated on relevant industry regulations, best practices, and emerging risks.
• Conduct special investigations as required, such as fraud investigations.
• Foster strong working relationships with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
• Promote a strong internal control culture throughout the organization.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional certification such as CA(SA), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), CISA, or equivalent is mandatory.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in internal audit, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
• Extensive knowledge of auditing standards (IIA), risk management frameworks, and internal control principles.
• Proven experience in auditing financial services organizations and regulatory compliance.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal abilities.
