Job description

Who we are:

Mama Money is a growth-stage fintech on a mission to improve the financial lives of migrants and underserved communities across Africa and beyond. What started in 2015 as a cross-border payments service has grown into a multi-product financial platform — anchored by our multi-platform mobile app, giving customers the power to send, save, and manage their money anytime, anywhere, on their own terms, at a socially fair price.

Mama HQ is in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. We're 157 people strong (and counting), representing 19 countries across Africa, Asia, the UK, and Europe. From remittances to a growing suite of in-app financial products, everything we build is in service of people who deserve better — and our app is where that mission comes to life, putting real financial freedom in the palm of our customers' hands. Our culture reflects that same commitment. We look after our team the way we want them to look after our customers. "Just be lekker!" means we trust our talented, diverse people to do what's right and make it happen — simply and with heart.

We've earned a few accolades, built lasting partnerships, and grown our reach in ways we're proud of. We've had good times and tough times, but our focus has never shifted. People over profit, always.

Mama Money is looking for a Head of Agent Network to lead the engine behind our growth. You'll take the reins of our 1,500+ strong field agent network across regions, driving sales strategy, agent performance, and commercial results that directly power our mission, helping migrants and underserved communities move money on their own terms, at a fair price. If you're data-driven, commercially and product-sharp, and know how to get the best out of large distribution teams, this is your chance to lead impact at scale from our Cape Town HQ.

As our Head of Agent Network, you will:
  • Lead and develop the sales team with a focus on driving high performance through our extensive field agent network (1,500+ agents).
  • Develop and execute data-driven strategies that align with company targets for customer acquisition, retention, and cross-selling our full suite of products and services.
  • Own and manage the commercial budget, focusing on controlling customer acquisition costs, improving gross margins, and enhancing customer lifetime value. Measure the results of deployed capital to drive strategy.
  • Oversee and mentor regional managers, ensuring they effectively manage their agents, meet performance targets, and drive sales in their regions.
  • Use data and performance metrics to track, analyse, and improve the efficiency of the agent network, ensuring strategies are refined and optimised for maximum impact. Be able to wrangle numbers and find opportunities.
  • Take over target setting for the team.
  • Review the existing commission structure to drive performance across the agent network, ensuring agents are incentivised and motivated to achieve their sales targets.
  • Collaborate closely with the product teams to ensure the agent network has the tools, products, and support needed to maximise sales potential.
  • Constantly use the product and suggest improvements based on that and feedback from the agent network. Work with the Product team to estimate the impact and cost of these improvements.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to ensure the Agent Network is on brand and is a strong brand ambassador. Provide Feedback on areas that can be branded to drive demand to in-field agents.
  • Ensure alignment with the company’s values and foster a collaborative, respectful, and high-performance culture within the sales team.
  • Have fun while driving our business growth and impact!
In your first 90 days, you will:
  • Deeply familiarise yourself with our agent network, customers, and sales processes.
  • Develop a detailed, data-backed sales strategy to drive customer acquisition, retention and cross-product usage through the agent network, with an emphasis on measurable performance.
  • Begin managing and building strong relationships with regional managers, identifying areas for improvement and growth within each region.
  • Track and monitor the performance of the network at each level, identifying strengths, weaknesses and general areas to improve
  • Start implementing improvements and make decisions
  • Start the process to collaborate with Product and Marketing to improve the Agent experience
About you:
  • You have experience leading a national sales team within an insurance, retail, financial services, or similar industry, focusing on managing large agent or distribution networks.
  • You are data-literate and comfortable doing data analysis to drive decisions, improve sales efficiency, and optimise performance.
  • You have worked with Product and Marketing before to collaborate and drive change. You can lean on their expertise but also provide them with insight from the field.
  • You are skilled at managing regional managers and sales teams, setting clear targets, and holding them accountable for meeting sales goals.
  • You have a strong commercial mindset with proven success in driving customer acquisition, retention, and cross-product usage.
  • You are target-driven, performance-oriented, and always looking for ways to improve operational efficiency.
  • You have a strong interest in social impact and are motivated by contributing to a mission that uplifts people.
  • It would be a bonus if:You have experience working in the fintech space or at a rapidly growing startup.
