Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Hardware Engineer to drive end-to-end hardware development for IoT devices in Nelspruit. You will design robust, scalable electronics from concept through production.

You will collaborate with firmware, software and manufacturing teams, select components, validate designs, and maintain BOMs while ensuring cost and performance targets are met. A strong background in Altium or KiCad is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in electronic hardware design for IoT devices.
• Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad).
• Experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and various communication protocols.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Hardware Engineer to focus on Internet of Things (IoT) devices for their Nelspruit location. You will be responsible for the end-to-end development of electronic hardware for connected devices, from concept through to production. This role involves designing robust, scalable, and cost-effective hardware solutions that meet stringent performance and connectivity requirements. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop schematics and PCB layouts for IoT devices, integrating microcontrollers, sensors, communication modules (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa), and power management circuitry.
• Select appropriate components based on performance, cost, and availability requirements.
• Conduct hardware testing, validation, and debugging, ensuring optimal functionality and reliability.
• Collaborate with firmware and software teams to ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
• Work closely with manufacturing partners to support the production process and resolve hardware-related issues.
• Develop and maintain detailed hardware design documentation, including Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Research and evaluate new technologies and components for future product development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electronic hardware design, with specific experience in IoT devices .
• Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad).
• Experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and various communication protocols.
• Knowledge of power management techniques for battery-operated devices.
• Familiarity with RF design principles and testing is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
