Job summary

Acumen Group in Johannesburg seeks a Group Tax Manager to lead international tax, transfer pricing and cross-border advisory. The role blends hands-on tax work with a commercial mindset, partnering with senior finance and business leaders to guide strategic decisions.

You will coordinate multi-jurisdiction tax compliance, advise on VAT/indirect taxes and withholding tax, support tax reporting and risk management, and assist with audits as the group expands into new markets.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance or Law.
• 4–6 years’ relevant tax experience.
• Experience in international tax, transfer pricing, VAT/indirect tax and withholding tax.
• Experience coordinating tax matters across jurisdictions.

We are recruiting a Group Tax Manager on behalf of one of our clients based in Johannesburg.

This is a hands-on, commercially focused role suited to a tax professional with strong exposure to international tax, transfer pricing, indirect tax and cross-border transactions. The successful candidate will work closely with senior finance and business stakeholders, providing practical tax guidance across multiple jurisdictions and coordinating with external and in-country tax advisers.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing practical tax advice on commercial arrangements and cross-border transactions
• Managing international tax and transfer pricing matters
• Advising on VAT, indirect tax and withholding tax implications
• Coordinating tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions
• Managing relationships with external and in-country tax advisers
• Supporting tax reporting, tax risk management and audit processes
• Reviewing tax implications of new markets, operating structures and commercial arrangements

Requirements:

• Relevant degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance or Law
• Approximately 4 to 6 years' relevant tax experience, ideally gained within professional services, a multinational organisation or a multi-jurisdictional environment
• Practical exposure to international tax, transfer pricing, VAT/indirect tax and withholding tax
• Experience coordinating tax matters across different jurisdictions
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to translate technical tax matters into practical business advice
