Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Technician in Benoni to maintain and repair airport fleet assets such as baggage tractors, belt loaders, and aircraft tugs. You will ensure equipment remains in optimal condition to support daily airport operations.

The role requires strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic knowledge, fault diagnosis, and the ability to read manuals and schematics. A valid driver’s license and airport security clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a mechanic/technician with heavy machinery, vehicles or GSE.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics and diagrams.
• Proficient in using diagnostic tools and troubleshooting effectively.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to obtain airport security clearance.
• Commitment to safety and quality in maintenance tasks in Gauteng.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on GSE.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostics.
• Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repairs, including parts used and time spent.
• Ensure GSE compliance with safety regulations and airport standards in Benoni.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
• Manage spare parts inventory and supplies for GSE maintenance.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Technician to maintain and repair a fleet of specialized vehicles and equipment essential for airport operations in Benoni . You will ensure that all GSE, including baggage tractors, belt loaders, aircraft tugs, and de-icing units, are in optimal working condition. This role is critical for the smooth and efficient functioning of the airport, requiring a proactive approach to maintenance and a strong understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems. You will work within a dedicated team committed to operational excellence and safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on a variety of Ground Support Equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and time spent.
• Ensure all GSE complies with safety regulations and operational standards specific to the Benoni airport environment.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and perform emergency repairs to minimize operational delays.
• Manage inventory of spare parts and supplies for GSE maintenance.
