Placements24 is seeking a Grid Integration Specialist for an on-site role in Paarl, Western Cape. You will analyze grid capacity, develop interconnection strategies, and ensure compliance with grid codes while collaborating with grid operators, developers, and engineering teams.

The ideal candidate holds a BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) with at least 6 years of experience in renewable energy integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems.
• Minimum 6 years’ experience in power systems engineering, focused on grid integration of renewables.
• Proficiency with grid simulation software (PSS/E, PowerFactory DIgSILENT, PSCAD).
• Knowledge of SA grid codes and regulatory frameworks; ECSA registration is preferred.

About the Role

Our client, a key player in modernizing South Africa's energy infrastructure, is seeking a skilled Grid Integration Specialist for their operations in Paarl, Western Cape. This role is essential for ensuring the seamless and stable integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, into the national electricity grid. You will be responsible for analyzing grid capacity, developing interconnection strategies, and ensuring compliance with all technical and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in power systems engineering, with expertise in grid stability, power quality, and renewable energy technologies. This on-site position requires close collaboration with grid operators, project developers, and internal engineering teams to facilitate the growth of sustainable energy within the Western Cape region.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze grid infrastructure and assess the impact of integrating renewable energy projects.
• Develop technical requirements and solutions for connecting renewable energy plants to the grid.
• Perform power flow, short-circuit, and stability studies to ensure grid reliability.
• Ensure compliance with grid codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NERSA, Eskom Grid Code).
• Collaborate with project development teams to optimize site selection and interconnection points.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to grid integration and power quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on grid integration of renewable energy.
• Proficiency in grid simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, PowerFactory DIgSILENT, PSCAD).
• Solid understanding of grid stability, protection systems, and power quality principles.
• Knowledge of South African grid codes and regulatory frameworks is essential.
• Experience with energy storage systems and their integration is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Registered or eligible for registration with ECSA.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and attend meetings in the Paarl area and beyond.
