What does an EPLAN Designer do?
EPLAN is the leading software for designing electrical control systems. An EPLAN Designer creates the technical drawings and documents that tell panel builders and electricians exactly how a system is built and wired. Once youre trained, your work will include:
- Drawing electrical schematics and circuit diagrams for control panels, machines and plant installations
- Designing panel layouts, i.e. where each breaker, contactor, PLC, relay and terminal goes in the enclosure
- Producing wiring diagrams, terminal plans, cable schedules and connection lists
- Making the bill of materials (BOM) that purchasing and the workshop use
- Using standard symbols and following IEC/SANS standards and good practice
- Updating drawings when projects change, and producing "as-built" documents at the end
- Working closely with engineers, project managers, panel builders and site teams so the design works in practice
Your background as an electrician will be a big advantage, because you already know how panels are built and wired in real life.
