Job summary

James Chase in Cape Town is seeking experienced Mobile Engineers to join a growing Digital & technology team developing a major consumer-facing mobile application used across international markets. Roles are available at Mid and Senior levels, focusing on Kotlin and Kotlin Multiplatform to share functionality across Android and iOS within a unified codebase.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial Kotlin experience
• Experience building and supporting production mobile applications
• Good knowledge of modern mobile architecture and engineering practices
• Experience integrating applications with APIs and backend services
• Understanding of automated testing, CI/CD and mobile release processes
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Experience working within collaborative Product and Engineering teams
• Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP/KMM) would be particularly valuable

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing new mobile features using Kotlin and Kotlin Multiplatform
• Building shared functionality across Android and iOS
• Developing platform-specific functionality where appropriate
• Integrating mobile applications with APIs, services and third-party platforms
• Writing clean, maintainable and testable code
• Contributing to code reviews and engineering standards
• Troubleshooting production issues and improving application performance
• Contributing to automated testing, CI/CD and mobile release processes
• Helping simplify existing solutions and reduce technical debt
• Take technical ownership of complex mobile features
• Influence mobile architecture and technical direction
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers
• Identify technical risks and help make pragmatic engineering decisions
