Job summary

International SOS is seeking a General Practitioner to join our team in Midrand, Johannesburg, offering full- or part-time options. The role focuses on international medical support, risk assessment, and coordination of medical evacuations for clients worldwide, with opportunities for growth into senior medical roles.

Candidates should have MBChB, HPCSA registration, and at least five years post-Community Service experience, plus private GP exposure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery required.
• HPCSA registration for independent practice as General Practitioner.
• Minimum 5 years post community service.
• Minimum 5 years private sector experience in Private General Practice.
• Experience in international medical assistance or remote medical services is a plus.
• Current ACLS, ATLS, PALS or equivalent.
• Must have a valid passport.
• EU/UK passports advantageous.
• Willing to work in a shift environment.

Responsibilities

• Delivering front line medical support and treatment guidance.
• Providing direct clinical support and validation of treatment for medical staff working in remote sites.
• Oversight and governance of medical evacuation and repatriation of patients.
• Interpreting medical situations by conducting a tailored risk analysis of condition vs geographical location.
• Providing telephonic advice to patients, relatives, employers, employees, and other key client stakeholders.
• Monitoring and managing open cases to closure to ensure appropriate medical outcome and financial compliance according to current standards.
• Liaising with international medical professionals to obtain medical assessments for patients who are hospitalised or treated overseas.
• Providing pre-travel and evacuation medical assistance in response to customer inquiries, including coordination of medical evacuation or repatriation services.
• Accompanying patients on international commercial flights as a medical escort.
