Job summary

DHL Global Forwarding is seeking an experienced Customs VAS Supervisor in Johannesburg to lead the customs value-added services. The role requires deep knowledge of customs clearance, licenses, and related processes, with a focus on risk management and accuracy across stops, bond registers, refunds, and client communication.

You will coordinate with operations managers, maintain essential registers, and supervise staff. Proficiency with CargoWise and strong documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of customs procedures and regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage complex customs processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Customs VAS section on all value-added services.
• Maintain weekly catch-up meetings with stops clerk and identify risks to Operations Manager.
• Escalate issues and coordinate with AFR/OFR Operations Managers for resolution.
• Maintain Bond registers and ensure compliance to avoid penalties.
• Coordinate refunds and duty drawback processes and monitor for timely resolutions.
• Manage RLA efilling customer linkages and ensure license renewals.
• Prepare and distribute customs newsletters and keep clients informed of regulatory changes.
• Assist with permits (CITES) and ensure accurate documentation.
• Conduct regular file audits on imports/exports and ensure tariff & origin accuracy.
• Provide customer-focused support and respond to queries within 2 days.
• Oversee staff performance, training needs, and succession planning.
