Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Geothermal Energy Engineer for projects based in Bloemfontein. The role focuses on designing, developing, and managing geothermal power plants and related systems to harness Earth’s heat for sustainable energy production.

You will work with geological data, thermodynamics, and reservoir analyses to maximize energy extraction while meeting safety and environmental standards. Relocation support may be available for qualified candidates and there are opportunities for R&D

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geothermal Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years hands-on experience in geothermal energy exploration, development, or plant operation.
• Strong knowledge of reservoir engineering, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
• Familiarity with drilling technologies and geothermal resource assessment techniques.
• Experience with project management and cross-functional teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills required for complex engineering challenges in Bloemfontein.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize geothermal power plant systems, including drilling, exploration, and energy conversion components.
• Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for new geothermal energy projects.
• Analyze geological and reservoir data to predict performance and identify potential risks.
• Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of geothermal facilities.
• Develop and implement operational and maintenance strategies for geothermal plants.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards for geothermal operations.
