Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to support mining projects near Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on assessing stability of mine structures, slopes, and underground excavations, providing design recommendations and risk mitigation strategies.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team, apply soil and rock mechanics expertise, and contribute to safe, efficient operations across site-based projects with accommodation and transport provided.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, mining exposure preferred.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software Rocscience Suite, PLAXIS, and GeoStudio.
• Experience with ground improvement techniques and foundation design.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, laboratory testing, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze the stability of open-pit slopes, underground excavations, and mine waste facilities.
• Develop and implement geotechnical monitoring programs and interpret monitoring data.
• Provide geotechnical design recommendations for mine infrastructure, such as access roads, tunnels, and tailings dams.
• Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and construction teams to ensure safe and effective project execution.
