Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join a prominent engineering and environmental consultancy in Rustenburg, North West. You will conduct site investigations, analyze soil and rock mechanics, and advise on foundations, slope stability, and earthworks for mining and civil infrastructure projects.

The role requires a Masters in Geotechnical Engineering, Pr Eng with ECSA, at least 7 years of geotechnical experience (preferably in mining), and proficiency with Plaxis or GeoStudio.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Pr. Eng. registration with ECSA.
• 7+ years of geotechnical experience, preferably in mining.
• Proficiency in geotechnical investigation techniques and laboratory testing procedures.
• Experience with geotechnical software for numerical modeling (Plaxis/GeoStudio).
• Strong understanding of SA geological conditions and mining practices.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise subsurface investigations (drilling, sampling, in-situ testing).
• Perform laboratory testing and analysis of soil/rock samples.
• Conduct slope, excavation, and retaining structure stability analyses.
• Design foundations for buildings, bridges, and mining infrastructure.
• Prepare technical reports, recommendations and specifications.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent engineering and environmental consultancy, is seeking a dedicated Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Rustenburg, North West . This role is integral to supporting the region's thriving mining sector and expanding civil infrastructure development. You will be responsible for conducting site investigations, analyzing soil and rock mechanics, and providing expert recommendations for foundations, slope stability, and earthworks. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of geotechnical principles and their application in both mining and construction contexts within Rustenburg . This is a key position that offers significant exposure to diverse geological conditions and large-scale projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute subsurface investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
• Perform laboratory testing and analysis of soil and rock samples.
• Conduct stability analyses for slopes, excavations, and retaining structures.
• Design foundations for buildings, bridges, and mining-related infrastructure.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably with exposure to mining environments.
• Proficiency in geotechnical investigation techniques and laboratory testing procedures.
• Expertise in geotechnical software for numerical modeling and analysis.
• Strong understanding of South African geological conditions and mining practices.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage projects and client relationships effectively in Rustenburg .
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to remote sites.
