Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with geotechnical focus.
• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
• Professional registration with ECSA or SACNASP advantageous.
• 5–7 years of geotechnical investigations and design experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations, including borehole drilling supervision.
• Perform laboratory testing and interpret soil/rock data.
• Undertake geotechnical analysis for foundations, slopes and earth structures.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations, including borehole drilling supervision, in-situ testing, and sampling.
• Perform laboratory testing analysis and interpret soil and rock mechanics data.
• Undertake detailed geotechnical analysis for foundations (shallow and deep), slopes, retaining walls, and earth structures.
• Develop comprehensive geotechnical reports, including design recommendations and mitigation strategies.
• Prepare project specifications and tender documents related to geotechnical works.
• Provide construction phase support, including site supervision and problem-solving for geotechnical issues.
• Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
• Utilize geotechnical software for modeling and analysis (e.g., Plaxis, GeoStudio).
• Contribute to the development and mentoring of junior geotechnical staff.
• Ensure adherence to all relevant safety standards and environmental regulations throughout project lifecycles.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
• Professional registration (Pr Eng or Pr Sci Nat) with ECSA or SACNASP is highly advantageous.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in geotechnical investigations and design.
• Solid understanding of soil and rock mechanics principles.
• Experience with geotechnical software packages (e.g., Plaxis, FLAC, GeoStudio).
• Proficiency in interpreting laboratory test results and field data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to undertake fieldwork across KwaZulu-Natal.
