Placements24 is seeking a Lead Geotechnical Engineer to head geotechnical investigations and provide expert analysis for major infrastructure and building projects in Durban. You will oversee site characterization, foundation design, slope stability analyses, and earthworks, ensuring safety and project viability.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Pr. Eng registration with ECSA, and 10+ years of construction-focused geotechnical experience, including

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Professional registration with ECSA as Pr. Eng.
• 10+ years of geotechnical experience in construction.
• Strong knowledge of soil/rock mechanics and hydrogeology.
• Experience with PLAXIS or GeoStudio.

Responsabilités

• Lead geotechnical investigations including site reconnaissance, drilling, and in-situ testing.
• Perform design analysis for foundations, slopes and earthworks.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Geotechnical Engineer to join their established practice in Durban . This critical role involves leading complex geotechnical investigations and providing expert analysis for a wide range of infrastructure and building projects. You will be responsible for overseeing site characterization, foundation design, slope stability analysis, and earthworks, ensuring the safety and viability of structural developments. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities, a deep understanding of geological conditions unique to the region, and a commitment to driving innovation in geotechnical engineering solutions, contributing significantly to major construction endeavors in KwaZulu-Natal .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical investigations, including site reconnaissance, drilling, and in-situ testing programs.
• Perform detailed geotechnical analysis for foundation design (shallow and deep), slope stability, and earth retention systems.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical investigation reports, including recommendations for design and construction.
• Provide expert advice and technical support to project teams, clients, and contractors on geotechnical matters.
• Oversee the work of junior geotechnical engineers and technicians, ensuring quality and adherence to best practices.
• Review and approve geotechnical designs and construction methodologies.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr. Eng is required.
• Over 10 years of specialized experience in geotechnical engineering, particularly within the construction industry.
• In-depth knowledge of soil mechanics , rock mechanics, and hydrogeology.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar analysis tools.
• Proven ability to manage projects, lead teams, and communicate complex technical information effectively.
