Job summary

Placements24 seeks a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their established team in Cape Town. You will assess ground conditions, design foundations and slope stabilization for coastal development along the Western Cape coastline, and prepare detailed reports with risk assessments.

With a minimum of 7 years' experience and a Master’s degree, you will liaise with site teams and clients, ensuring compliance with SA standards.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in geotechnical investigations and design.
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for analysis and modeling (Plaxis, GeoStudio).
• Experience with coastal geotechnical challenges including erosion and soil liquefaction potential.
• Strong report writing and communication skills to liaise effectively with clients and site personnel in Cape Town.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations, including soil sampling, borehole drilling, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil and rock data to determine engineering properties and potential hazards.
• Design foundations, retaining walls, and slope stabilization measures appropriate for coastal conditions.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical investigation reports, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Provide technical support to construction teams during the implementation phase, overseeing earthworks and foundation construction.
• Ensure all designs and recommendations comply with relevant South African engineering standards and building regulations applicable to Cape Town.

About the Role

Our client seeks a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their established team in Cape Town. This role focuses on assessing ground conditions and providing expert recommendations for a range of construction and development projects along the Western Cape coastline. You will play a critical role in ensuring the stability and safety of foundations, slopes, and subterranean structures by conducting detailed site investigations and analyses.
