Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Geophysical Data Analyst for a prominent energy firm in Paarl, Western Cape. Hybrid work arrangement combines on-site collaboration with remote analysis to interpret seismic, gravity, and magnetic data for subsurface models.

The role requires 6+ years in geophysics, proficiency with Petrel, OpendTect and HampsonRussell, and strong communication skills to support exploration decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geophysics, Physics, Geology, or related Earth Science discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of professional experience as a Geophysical Data Analyst, preferably in energy (oil/gas/geothermal).
• Proficiency in seismic data processing and interpretation software packages.
• Strong understanding of seismic principles, data acquisition methods, and geological concepts.

Responsibilities

• Process, analyze, and interpret seismic (2D/3D), gravity, and magnetic data.
• Perform data quality control and assurance checks throughout processing workflow.
• Utilize industry-standard geophysical software (Petrel, OpendTect, HampsonRussell) for interpretation and attribute analysis.
• Generate structural and stratigraphic interpretations identifying potential hydrocarbon traps.
• Integrate geophysical data with well logs and geological information for subsurface modeling.
• Assist in planning and execution of geophysical acquisition surveys.
• Prepare clear reports and presentations of geophysical findings for technical and management audiences.
• Contribute to prospect evaluation and risk assessment processes.
• Stay updated on new technologies and methodologies in geophysical data processing.
