Job summary

Wine Estate near Somerset West is seeking a dedicated Gardener to install and maintain flowers, trees and green spaces, ensuring gardens stay healthy and beautiful. Responsibilities include installing seasonal plants, mowing, trimming, irrigation operation, pruning, and greenhouse cultivation, with attention to safety and equipment care.

Grade 12 and 2 years' experience preferred; knowledge of pests, fertilisers, and local plant life required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12
• Preferably 2 years’ previous experience as a Gardener
• Experience with plumbing will be advantageous
• Familiarity with landscaping design principles
• Extensive knowledge of regional plant life
• Working knowledge of basic irrigation systems and their maintenance
• Knowledge of local pests and appropriate control methods
• Knowledge of synthetic and natural fertilisers
• Understanding of health and safety regulations applicable to landscaping and gardening activities
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects & to remain on your feet for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

• Installing and maintaining seasonal plants to ensure attractive, well-maintained landscaped areas.
• Mowing, trimming, fertilising, mulching, edging, and weeding gardens and green spaces, as well as pruning trees and shrubs to promote healthy growth and appearance.
• Responsible for the proper use, care, and maintenance of gardening equipment and machinery, including mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers.
• Planting, cultivating, maintaining, and harvesting produce within the greenhouse, ensuring optimal growing conditions and crop health.
• Working knowledge of irrigation systems, including their operation, monitoring, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
• Responsible for monitoring plant health, identifying and addressing pest-related issues, and ensuring gardens, pathways, greenhouse areas, and surrounding green spaces are kept clean, tidy, and free of debris and litter at all times.
