We are looking for a Fund Head to be the single point of accountability for the overall health, performance, and strategic direction of an assigned Multi Investor/ Multi Asset class portfolio Fund. This role integrates and leads investment functions across the fund value chain including: origination, deal execution, post-investment management, governance, and stakeholder engagement – to deliver against the Fund's mandate. The Fund Head ensures the Fund achieves its financial and impact objectives, maintains strong investor relationships, and operates with the highest standards of governance and compliance as the senior leadership role within the proposed fund-oriented structure reporting to the Chief of Investment Funds.

What You'll Do

Fund Strategy & Leadership

• Define, own and execute the Fund's strategy in alignment with the investor mandate, serving as the single point of accountability for overall Fund health and performance
  
• Deliver on the Fund's investment thesis, portfolio construction approach and value-creation priorities
  
• Lead and integrate the Investing and PIM functions within the Fund to operate as a single, cohesive team, managing resource planning, capacity and prioritisation
  
• Represent the Fund in FUNDCO Forum; contribute to cross-Fund knowledge sharing and institutional capability building
  
• Drive Fund optimisation – identify and implement improvements to ways of work, cost efficiencies and mandate refinements
  
• Oversee Fund budgeting, in conjunction with Finance team, and input into broader Ventures financial planning
  

Deal Origination & Pipeline

• Build and maintain a network of high-quality deal sources within the early-stage investment ecosystem, and oversee the Fund's deal pipeline initiatives (including AI integration) to ensure a consistent and effective flow of quality opportunities
  
• Direct the Investing team in crafting investment theses and screening decisions; motivate transactions to the deal team
  
• Support Business Development interventions to attract new investors and grow AUM within the Fund, including attending investor meetings and contributing data and learnings from the Fund
  

Deal Execution Oversight

• Provide final accountability for the quality of due diligence (commercial and financial), investment structuring, valuations and legal documentation across the Fund
  
• Review and approve investment reports; build Investment Committee credibility and confidence by successfully presenting investment opportunities
  
• Oversee legal agreement drafting process, negotiation and execution, ensuring accurate reflection of approved term sheets; manage effective transaction hand-over to the PIM team
  
• Champion investment process improvement and efficiency within the Fund
  

Portfolio & Post Investment Management

• Drive performance management across all investee companies in the Fund, ensuring delivery against financial and impact mandates
  
• Oversee delivery of value-added support to portfolio companies, including operational diagnostics, strategy execution, capital raising, market access and special projects to unlock value
  
• Responsible for stakeholder reporting, including portfolio valuations, Fund-level financial reporting and investment committee reporting
  
• Participate in credit committees and portfolio-related strategic forums as required; assist in extracting maximum value and impact from the portfolio
  
• Oversee exit strategy development and execution for portfolio companies at the appropriate time
  

Governance, Compliance & Risk

• Accountable for Fund-level governance, including governance forums, compliance rhythms and monitoring at investee, fund and portfolio levels
  
• Ensure adherence to legal compliance and risk management at Fund and portfolio level; oversee legal agreement reviews and apply lessons from existing portfolio companies
  
• Ensure the Fund operates within FAIS, regulatory and mandate requirements; oversee policy development and implementation relevant to the Fund
  
• Drive inputs into Fund cash management and operational administration, supporting Finance-led budgeting
  

Investor & Stakeholder Management

• Serve as the primary relationship owner for all Fund investors and key external stakeholders; responsible for investor relations, Fund SteerCo, governance and stakeholder reporting
  
• Identify and mitigate risks in investor/client relationships; ensure investors remain invested and commitments are delivered
  
• Coordinate with Solutions Programme Managers for clients holding both a programme and a Fund investment
  

Team Leadership & People Development

• Lead, coach and develop the Fund's Investing and PIM team members through mentoring, technical training and performance management relationships
  
• Provide input on team structure, capacity and talent needs within the Fund; build a high-performing, collaborative team culture
  
• Embrace a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and augmented productivity, including AI-assisted workflows in line with Edge strategy
  

Requirements

Experience

• 10+ years in venture capital, private equity, impact investing, or corporate finance, spanning both deal origination/execution and post-investment management
  
• Demonstrated track record of leading investment teams and investor relationships experience
  
• Experience in fund management, fund governance and stakeholder/investor reporting
  
• Background in small business advisory, strategy consulting or SME investing advantageous
  
• Leadership experience is essential
  

Qualifications

• Relevant graduate degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, Law or related field
  
• CA(SA), CFA or MBA from a highly-regarded institution strongly preferred
  
• Outstanding academic record and track record of performance
