Placements24 is seeking an innovative Formulation Scientist to join their Drug Product Development team in Nelspruit (Mbombela). You will design, develop, and optimize formulations for multiple dosage forms, collaborating with analytical and manufacturing teams to translate drug substances into stable, effective medicines.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD or MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Chemistry, with at least four years of hands-on formulation experience.

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
• Expertise in various dosage forms and formulation technologies.
• Strong understanding of drug delivery principles, pharmacokinetics, and biopharmaceutics.
• Experience with analytical techniques for characterization and quality control of drug products.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop novel formulations for small molecules and/or biologics across dosage forms.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies, including characterization of drug substances and excipients.
• Perform compatibility studies and develop stability-indicating methods.
• Optimize formulations to achieve desired physicochemical properties, bioavailability, and shelf-life.
• Scale-up formulations from laboratory to pilot and commercial manufacturing.
• Prepare documentation for regulatory submissions, including formulation development reports and CMC sections.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative Formulation Scientist to join their Drug Product Development team in Nelspruit. This role is central to the transformation of drug substances into stable, effective, and patient-friendly drug products. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing formulations for various dosage forms, working closely with analytical and manufacturing teams. The ideal candidate has a strong background in pharmaceutical sciences, extensive experience in formulation development, and a passion for creating high-quality medicines.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop novel formulations for small molecules and/or biologics across various dosage forms (e.g., oral, injectable, topical).
• Conduct pre-formulation studies, including characterization of drug substances and excipients.
• Perform compatibility studies and develop stability-indicating methods.
• Optimize formulations to achieve desired physicochemical properties, bioavailability, and shelf-life.
• Scale-up formulations from laboratory to pilot and commercial manufacturing.
