Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Operations Manager to oversee a production facility in Vereeniging, Gauteng. The role is on-site and focuses on driving efficiency, quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness across all manufacturing operations.

The successful candidate will have a strong FMCG background, proven leadership, and a track record of optimizing processes, managing resources, and delivering high-quality products to market.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in operations management within FMCG manufacturing.
• Experience leading large production teams and complex processes.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement.
• Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to manage budgets and control costs.
• Knowledge of quality management systems (ISO) and regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency in production planning and control software.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all daily manufacturing operations, including production planning, scheduling and execution.
• Ensure production targets are met in terms of volume, quality and timeliness.
• Implement and enforce strict quality control measures to maintain product standards.
• Manage production staff, providing leadership, training and performance management.
• Optimize production processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste and control costs.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Manage inventory of raw materials and finished goods, coordinating with supply chain and logistics teams.
• Develop and manage the production budget, identifying cost-saving opportunities.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma).
• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance and QA to ensure smooth operations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues as they arise.
