Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a prominent national logistics company, is seeking an experienced and results-driven Fleet Manager to oversee their extensive vehicle fleet operations. This hybrid role, based in the vibrant business hub of Sandton, Gauteng, ZA , requires a strategic thinker with expertise in fleet maintenance, regulatory compliance, and cost management. You will be responsible for optimizing fleet performance, ensuring the safety and efficiency of all vehicles, and managing a team of fleet personnel. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of fleet management technologies, and a proven track record of reducing operational costs while enhancing service delivery. You will work closely with procurement, operations, and finance departments to achieve company objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive fleet management strategies to ensure optimal operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Oversee all aspects of fleet maintenance, including scheduling, preventative care, repairs, and asset lifecycle management.
• Ensure compliance with all national and provincial transportation regulations, licensing, permits, and insurance requirements.
• Manage fuel procurement, maintenance budgets, and other fleet-related expenses, identifying areas for cost savings.
• Monitor vehicle performance and utilization, implementing measures to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of fleet technicians, administrators, and drivers.
• Implement and manage fleet safety programs, including driver training and accident investigation.
• Utilize fleet management software to track assets, monitor maintenance, and analyze performance data.
• Liaise with external vendors and service providers for parts, repairs, and maintenance.
• Contribute to the strategic planning and procurement of new fleet assets.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Fleet Manager or in a senior fleet operations role, with a strong understanding of fleet management principles.
• In-depth knowledge of vehicle maintenance, regulatory compliance (e.g., Road Traffic Act), and safety best practices.
• Experience in budget management and cost control for fleet operations.
• Proficiency in fleet management software and relevant IT systems.
• Strong leadership, team management, and motivational skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Effective communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field is highly preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work model, with regular attendance required at the Sandton, Gauteng, ZA office.
• Understanding of procurement processes for vehicles and fleet-related services.
