Placements24 is recruiting a Fleet Maintenance Manager for a major logistics operator in Pretoria. The role oversees maintenance scheduling, workshop operations, and fleet performance to maximize uptime and cost efficiency.

You will lead engineers, technicians, and admin staff while leveraging fleet software to track maintenance and metrics. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in fleet or workshop management, with heavy vehicles, strong cost-management skills, and a track record of delivering

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of fleet management or automotive workshop management experience, with heavy-duty vehicles.
• Proven track record of reducing costs in large automotive fleets.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, repair procedures and diagnostics.
• Experience in budget management and financial control for maintenance operations.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in fleet management software and general IT applications.
• Knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards.
• Relevant degree or diploma in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Business Management.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for the entire fleet.
• Manage day-to-day operations of the fleet maintenance workshop, including staffing and scheduling.
• Oversee repair and maintenance activities, ensuring quality and timeliness.
• Monitor fleet performance metrics such as uptime and cost per mile.
• Manage relationships with vendors, parts suppliers, and service providers.
• Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget and cost controls.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and licensing.
• Lead and motivate mechanics, technicians, and admin staff.
• Implement and manage fleet maintenance software for tracking and reporting.
• Conduct fleet inspections and audits to maintain optimal condition.
