Job summary

Tiger Brands King Foods in Potchefstroom is seeking a qualified Mechanical Fitter & Turner to join our Engineering team. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems across the plant to ensure high availability and product quality.

You should be trade-tested Fitter & Turner with 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing or related industries, able to read drawings, operate lathes and milling machines, and work shifts including overtime.

Tiger Brands King Foods is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Fitter & Turner to join our dynamic Engineering team at our Potchefstroom plant. This role plays a vital part in ensuring plant availability, cost-effectiveness, safety compliance, and consistent product quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of mechanical systems and equipment across the plant.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide specialist technical support to shift-based teams during operations.
• Assist as a functional expert in problem-solving when requested.
• Carry out running repairs on plant equipment as required during shifts.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Participate actively in maintenance planning meetings, providing input, clarifying work requirements, and scheduling tasks.
• Execute planned maintenance and contribute to developing and improving maintenance programs.
• Always operate safely and in compliance with plant and legal requirements.
• Proactively identify unsafe conditions or work practices and elevate for correction.
• Ensure all maintenance work is performed in a way that supports plant safety and hygiene standards.
• Carry out maintenance tasks to maximize plant availability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
• Contribute to meeting or exceeding set OEE targets.
• Complete required maintenance reports, logs, and administrative tasks to support engineering and production performance.
• Must have the physical ability to perform maintenance duties within a plant environment.
• Willingness to work shifts, including callouts, standby, overtime, and weekend work as required.
• Identify recurring mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions.

• Proficiency in maintenance systems and engineering standards.
• Trade-tested and qualified Fitter & Turner.
• Knowledge of high-speed packaging and production machinery.
• Skilled in operating and maintaining lathes, milling machines, drills, grinders, and other precision tools.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience in fabricating and fitting mechanical components.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• High numeracy and attention to detail.

Qualification and experience:

Education: Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Science/ N3 Technical Qualification.

Trade: Fitter & Turner (Trade Tested).

Experience: 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, or power generation industries #LI-KM3
