Job summary

Tiger Brands King Foods is seeking a qualified Mechanical Fitter & Turner to join our Engineering team at the Potchefstroom plant. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems to ensure plant availability and product quality.

The role requires trade-tested Fitter & Turner with 3–5 years of similar experience, reading engineering drawings, and a proactive, safety-conscious approach. Shifts include callouts, standby, overtime and weekend work.

Qualifications

• Education: Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Science.
• Trade: Fitter & Turner (Trade Tested).
• Experience: 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, or power generation industries.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical support to shift-based teams during operations.
• Carry out running repairs on plant equipment and respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Participate in maintenance planning meetings and schedule tasks.
• Execute planned maintenance and contribute to maintenance program improvements.
• Ensure all work complies with plant safety and hygiene standards.

Tiger Brands King Foods is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Fitter & Turner to join our dynamic Engineering team at our Potchefstroom plant. This role plays a vital part in ensuring plant availability, cost-effectiveness, safety compliance, and consistent product quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of mechanical systems and equipment across the plant.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide specialist technical support to shift-based teams during operations.
• Assist as a functional expert in problem-solving when requested.
• Carry out running repairs on plant equipment as required during shifts.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Participate actively in maintenance planning meetings, providing input, clarifying work requirements, and scheduling tasks.
• Execute planned maintenance and contribute to developing and improving maintenance programs.
• Always operate safely and in compliance with plant and legal requirements.
• Proactively identify unsafe conditions or work practices and elevate for correction.
• Ensure all maintenance work is performed in a way that supports plant safety and hygiene standards.
• Carry out maintenance tasks to maximize plant availability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
• Contribute to meeting or exceeding set OEE targets.
• Complete required maintenance reports, logs, and administrative tasks to support engineering and production performance.
• Must have the physical ability to perform maintenance duties within a plant environment.
• Willingness to work shifts, including callouts, standby, overtime, and weekend work as required.
• Identify recurring mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions.

• Proficiency in maintenance systems and engineering standards.
• Trade-tested and qualified Fitter & Turner.
• Knowledge of high-speed packaging and production machinery.
• Skilled in operating and maintaining lathes, milling machines, drills, grinders, and other precision tools.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience in fabricating and fitting mechanical components.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• High numeracy and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualification and experience:
