Job summary

Tiger Brands King Foods in Potchefstroom invites applications for a Mechanical Fitter & Turner to support plant availability and safety compliance. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems across the site, with a focus on minimizing downtime and improving OEE.

We seek a trade-tested Fitter with 3–5 years' experience in manufacturing or related industries, Matric with Maths & Science, and a hands-on, proactive mindset.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in maintenance systems and engineering standards.
• Trade-tested fitter with hands-on maintenance experience.
• Experience in manufacturing environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical support to shift-based teams.

Job description

Tiger Brands King Foods is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Fitter & Turner to join our dynamic Engineering team at our Potchefstroom plant. This role plays a vital part in ensuring plant availability, cost-effectiveness, safety compliance, and consistent product quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of mechanical systems and equipment across the plant.

What you will do

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical support to shift-based teams during operations.
• Assist as a functional expert in problem-solving when requested.
• Carry out running repairs on plant equipment as required during shifts.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Participate actively in maintenance planning meetings, providing input, clarifying work requirements, and scheduling tasks.
• Execute planned maintenance and contribute to developing and improving maintenance programs.
• Always operate safely and in compliance with plant and legal requirements.
• Proactively identify unsafe conditions or work practices and elevate for correction.
• Ensure all maintenance work is performed in a way that supports plant safety and hygiene standards.
• Carry out maintenance tasks to maximize plant availability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
• Contribute to meeting or exceeding set OEE targets.
• Complete required maintenance reports, logs, and administrative tasks to support engineering and production performance.
• Identify recurring mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions.

Qualification and experience

Education

• Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Science/ N3 Technical Qualification.

Trade

• Fitter (Trade Tested).

Experience

• 3-5 years' experience in a similar role, preferably within the manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, or power generation industries.
