thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa seeks a senior chemical engineer to act as Lead Engineer across projects, overseeing fire protection and process safety deliverables. The role involves client interaction, HAZID/HAZOP, QRA, and commissioning/start-up activities in energy and chemical sectors.

ECSA registration is required, and extensive experience in LPG storage and cryogenic facilities is highly preferred. The successful candidate will work within a project-based environment covering all project

Qualifications

• Must have 15 years engineering experience; 20+ years preferred.
• Experience in contracting environments on energy and chemical/petrochemical projects is required.
• Lead Engineer level responsibility and commissioning/start-up exposure are essential.
• Registration with ECSA is mandatory; fire-protection/process-safety qualifications are advantageous.

Responsabilités

• Participate in PFD, P&ID, 3D model reviews and constructability assessments.
• Prepare scope of work and manage consultants to deliver on schedule and quality.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA fire-protection standards and API guidance for LPG facilities.

Your responsibilities

• Interaction with the client and forming part of an owner’s team with the client
• Performing lead engineer role.
• Lead HAZOP and SIL Reviews and Hazardous Area Classification Reviews
• Participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews
• Preparation of Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services and management of consultants to deliver to scope, quality and schedule.
• NFPA 59 and other applicable NFPA fire-protection standards.
• API guidance applicable to LPG facilities and refrigerated storage.
• South African MHI, fire authority, environmental and emergency-response requirements.
• Consequence modelling, QRA, firewater hydraulics, dispersion and thermal-radiation principles.
• Review and participate in HAZID, HAZOP, QRA, MHI, fire-risk assessment and hazardous-area classification activities and verify action close-out.
• Firewater demand, pumps, tanks, ring main, hydrants/monitors, deluge, foam and fixed suppression systems

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to work in a projects based environment covering all phases of project execution (feasibility, concept, basic, detail, construction support and commissioning).

The individual will engage in fire protection/ process safety design activities related to producing and checking fire protection/ process safety engineering deliverables.

The individual will be responsible for fire protection/ process safety deliverables and quality/ technical quality assurance on the project

Your profile

• The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc. Chemical Engineering degree (or equivalent) with 15 years engineering experience. 20+ years of experience is preferable.
• Experience in contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries is required.
• Lead Engineer Experience
• Professional Registration with ECSA is required.
• The candidate must have participated in commissioning and plant start-up.
• The candidate must have refrigerated LPG, cryogenic storage, terminal, marine, EPC and brownfields experience. Strong LPG experience is essential.
• The candidate must direct fire protection/ process safety experience.
• Recognized fire-engineering or process-safety qualifications are advantageous. Relevant fire-protection, process-safety, MHI or risk-assessment competency credentials are strongly preferred.
