Job summary

Black Pen Recruitment is seeking an Onboarding Agent in Cape Town to guide new merchants through the payment gateway onboarding process. You will verify business information, perform due diligence checks, and ensure records are complete for approval and integration.

This role combines merchant communications, document verification and compliance administration. You will move applications along, provide Back Office training, and liaise with Risk, Compliance and specialist teams to escalate

Qualifications

• 1–2 years’ experience in merchant onboarding, KYC/KYB or FICA administration.
• Intermediate Excel skills with experience using structured checklists and electronic records.
• Qualification: Grade 12/NQF 4; diploma in business admin, banking or finance, or comparable experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage onboarding applications from Commercial handover, check document completeness and follow up on outstanding information.
• Verify business registration, addresses, activities and licences, together with the identity and authority of directors and representatives.
• Identify and verify ultimate beneficial owners, including those within complex ownership structures.
• Complete sanctions, politically exposed person and adverse media screening, record supporting evidence and refer findings to Risk and Compliance.
• Prepare complete due diligence packs for approval and confirm that approval conditions are met before handover to Integration.
• Capture verified business, contact and banking information, and submit banking details for independent verification.
• Keep merchants and internal teams informed of progress, provide Back Office training and coordinate complete handovers to Integration and Customer Support.
• Protect personal and merchant information, maintain accurate records and help improve onboarding checklists, guidance and processes.
