Network Recruitment International is assisting in sourcing an experienced Financial Controller for a 6-month contract in Cape Town. The role is highly operational, focusing on cash flow, controls and compliance with close collaboration across daily finance functions.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in cashbooks, forex transactions, banking, and month-end processes, with a strong eye for detail and autonomy. Immediate availability is advantageous for the fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary finance/accounting qualification required.
• Operational accounting exposure in cashbooks, banking and reconciliations is essential.
• Experience with international supplier payments and forex is preferred.
• Strong controls, compliance and cost-management mindset required.

Responsibilities

• Daily cashbook management and cash-flow oversight.
• International supplier payments and foreign currency transactions (GBP, EUR, USD).
• VAT, PAYE and SARS submissions; audit support and compliance.
• Intercompany and balance sheet reconciliations; GL and asset register management.
• Payroll-related finance functions and month-end journals.

Job description

A well-established and growing business based in Thornton, Cape Town is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to step into an urgent 6-month contract. This is a highly operational finance role for someone who enjoys being close to the detail, strengthening controls and keeping a firm grip on cash flow, costs and compliance.
The successful candidate will work across the day-to-day finance function and will need to be independent, detail-oriented, process-driven and commercially aware. You should be comfortable challenging unnecessary expenditure, maintaining strong controls and operating without close supervision.
The environment is fast-paced and product-driven, making this particularly relevant to candidates from manufacturing, distribution, import/export, wholesale, medical devices or similar operational businesses.
For the right person, this contract could open the door to a permanent Financial Manager opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:
- Daily cashbook management
- International supplier payments and foreign currency transactions (GBP, EUR and USD)
- Banking administration, cash-flow management and month-end journals
- VAT, PAYE and SARS submissions, compliance and audit support
- Intercompany and balance sheet reconciliations
- Debtors and creditors oversight
- General ledger and asset register management
- Payroll-related finance functions
- Audit preparation and auditor liaison

Job Experience and Skills Required:
- Relevant tertiary finance/accounting qualification
- Strong hands-on Financial Controller / Senior Financial Accountant / Management Accountant / Group Accountant / Finance Manager experience
- Recent operational accounting exposure, including cashbooks, banking and reconciliations
- Foreign currency and import/export exposure
- Experience with international payments
- Strong controls, compliance and cost-management mindset
- Sage 300 / Accpac experience highly preferred
- Advanced Excel
- Immediate availability or ability to start at short notice will be highly advantageous
- Office-based in Viking Place, Thornton, Cape Town
- 6-month contract
- Market-related remuneration - benchmark approximately R50 000 per month, flexible for the right candidate
