A well-established organisation is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join its finance team.
The role is responsible for supporting strong financial controls, accurate financial reporting and effective accounting processes. You will work across general accounting, reconciliations, journals, financial reporting, variance analysis, budgeting and audit support, while providing financial guidance to internal stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and monitor effective financial controls, policies and procedures.
- Perform general accounting duties accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Complete monthly balance sheet and income statement reconciliations and investigate variances.
- Analyse financial information, including inflows and outflows, to identify trends, discrepancies and potential risks.
- Prepare and review financial reports and provide accurate information for management reporting.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and financial queries.
- Prepare and process monthly journals, ensuring accurate GL allocation and supporting documentation.
- Assist with the preparation and monitoring of budgets and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.
- Support the audit process, including responding to and resolving audit queries within required deadlines.
- Identify financial control risks and provide recommendations to strengthen processes.
- Ensure expenses are correctly allocated to the General Ledger.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to resolve financial queries and provide appropriate financial advice.
- Maintain effective relationships with finance and business stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and operational efficiency.
- Ensure financial activities are completed in line with relevant accounting principles, policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Financial Management or a related field.
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Experience in financial accounting, financial control or a similar finance role.
- Strong understanding of financial controls and accounting processes.
- Practical experience with GL accounting, reconciliations, journals and financial reporting.
- Experience analysing financial information and investigating variances.
- Exposure to internal or external audit processes.
- Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
- Good understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
