Job summary

Clarkhouse Human Capital supports a global FMCG business with a South African operation to hire an experienced Financial Controller / Accountant to own the financial accounting and reporting function. This hands-on role thrives on detail, independence and pride in accurate, compliant financials.

Based in Johannesburg North with a hybrid work setup, you will ensure the balance sheet is accurate, oversee IFRS, tax and regulatory requirements, liaise with SARS and auditors, review stock balances,

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with IFRS and tax knowledge.
• Experience in financial reporting and balance sheet reconciliation.
• FMCG/stock-based environment experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide assurance over the balance sheet, ensuring accuracy and full support.
• Review processes and controls to strengthen the finance function.
• Oversee statutory, tax and regulatory requirements with SARS and tax team.
• Act as finance contact for internal and external auditors.
• Review stock balances and ensure accurate revenue recognition and cash flow.
• Collaborate with the international finance team and local stakeholders.

Job description

Our client, a global FMCG business with a South African operation, is looking for an experienced Financial Controller / Accountant to take ownership of the financial accounting and reporting function.

This is a hands‑on opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the detail, works well independently and takes pride in ensuring the financials are accurate, well supported and compliant.

With year-end approaching, you will play a key role in ensuring the business has confidence in its numbers and financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide assurance over the balance sheet, ensuring accounts are accurate, reconciled and fully supported
• Review financial processes, controls and documentation, identifying opportunities to simplify and strengthen the finance function
• Oversee statutory, tax and regulatory requirements, including liaison with SARS and the Group tax team
• Act as the key finance contact for internal and external auditors
• Review stock balances and financial information, identifying and addressing areas requiring attention
• Support accurate sales and revenue recognition and provide visibility over cash flow
• Work closely with the international finance team and local business stakeholders

What You'll Bring

• Relevant accounting qualification; CIMA or CA(SA) advantageous
• Strong practical financial accounting and financial reporting experience
• Sound knowledge of IFRS, tax, statutory and regulatory requirements
• Experience engaging with SARS and external auditors
• Strong balance sheet and reconciliation experience
• FMCG, manufacturing or another stock-based environment advantageous
• A hands‑on, detail-oriented approach with sound judgement and the confidence to challenge and improve
