Job summary

Ambitions Travel Recruitment is seeking a Financial Accountant / Travel Accountant in Cape Town for a hybrid role. You will manage month-end, quarter-end and year-end closes, IFRS reporting, VAT, and AP/AR in Tourplan while supporting the CFO Southern Africa.

The role requires solid Financial Accountant experience, IFRS knowledge, and the ability to drive process improvements across the finance function. A collaborative, development-oriented environment is offered.

Qualifications

• Solid Financial Accountant experience with IFRS, statutory compliance and month-end close.
• Experience in Tourplan financials, including AP/AR close, bank and creditor reconciliations.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight reporting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare monthly internal review files with commentary for CFO.
• Produce debtors age analysis and manage VAT reporting.

Financial Accountant job in Cape Town within the travel industry, offering a competitive salary, medical aid and hybrid working. They are now seeking a Financial Accountant to take ownership of accounting accuracy, IFRS compliance and the month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end closes for their business unit, working closely with the CFO Southern Africa to improve processes, controls and reporting.

The Role

In this role, you will take ownership of accounting, reporting and compliance for your business unit, ensuring accurate, timely and trustworthy financial information while strengthening controls and processes.

• Own and drive the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare monthly internal review files with commentary for the CFO
• Produce the debtors age analysis with reasons for overdue amounts, and *escalate* critical issues and variances
• Complete bank reconciliations, FX revaluations and AP/AR closes in Tourplan
• Manage creditors, including supplier statement reconciliations, invoice capture and payments within agreed terms
• Prepare VAT reports and submission files, ensuring tax invoices and support are compliant
• Compile monthly, quarterly and annual reports for Head Office, audits and internal use
• Support statutory audits and resolve audit and Head Office queries
• Post journals and support the general ledger process
• Manage the opening and closing of vouchers, plus business unit secretarial and admin tasks such as credit card applications and CIPC changes
• Identify process improvements and support Finance projects in line with the roadmap

Experience Required

• Proven experience as a Financial Accountant or in a similar finance role
• Relevant accounting qualification or equivalent experience
• Strong working knowledge of IFRS and month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes
• Hands‑on experience with debtors, creditors, bank reconciliations and FX revaluations
• Good understanding of VAT compliance and reporting
• Experience supporting statutory audits and Head Office queries
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to meet tight reporting deadlines
• Tourplan travel system experience
