Placements24 is seeking a Field Service Technician in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal to install, test, and maintain fiber optic networks across the region. You will work hands-on at customer sites, ensuring safety and high service standards.

Experience with fiber optic testing, splicing, and OTDR equipment is required, along with a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the region. A technical certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cables and equipment across environments.
• Perform regular maintenance and inspections of fiber optic networks.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot network faults and implement repair solutions.
• Respond to service calls and emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
• Use OTDRs and fusion splicers for testing and splicing.

Our client, a rapidly expanding telecommunications infrastructure provider, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Field Service Technician to join their growing team in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. This position is essential for ensuring the seamless installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks across the region. You will be the frontline representative of our client, directly interacting with customers and ensuring the highest standards of service delivery. This role requires a hands-on approach, a keen eye for detail, and a strong commitment to safety and quality. Key Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cables and associated equipment in various environments.
• Perform regular maintenance and inspections of fiber optic networks to ensure optimal performance.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot network faults, identifying root causes and implementing effective repair solutions.
• Respond promptly to service calls and emergency repairs to minimize network downtime.
• Use specialized tools and equipment for fiber optic testing and splicing, such as OTDRs and fusion splicers.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies during field operations.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
• Provide excellent customer service, addressing client concerns and ensuring satisfaction.
• Collaborate with the network operations center (NOC) to report issues and track service tickets.
• Assist with network upgrades and new build projects as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in telecommunications or a related field is a plus.
• Proven experience as a Field Service Technician or similar role, with specific experience in fiber optics.
• Proficiency in fiber optic cable installation, splicing, termination, and testing techniques.
• Experience with optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs) and other fiber optic testing equipment.
• Understanding of telecommunications network infrastructure and protocols.
• Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and technical documentation.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, and travel within the Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal region.
