Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and splice fiber optic cables per standards.
• Perform OTDR testing and interpret results to identify faults.
• Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic network issues to minimize downtime.
• Inspect and maintain fiber optic infrastructure regularly.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fiber Optic Technician to join their expanding team serving the Durban area. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic networks, ensuring high-quality connectivity for our customers. This position involves a mix of on-site work and remote support, offering a dynamic work environment. You will work with cutting-edge fiber optic technology, diagnosing and resolving network issues to maintain seamless communication services. Key Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and splice fiber optic cables according to industry standards and company procedures.
• Perform optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) testing and interpret results to identify faults.
• Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic network issues, ensuring minimal disruption to service.
• Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of fiber optic infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and testing activities.
• Collaborate with network engineers and other technicians to resolve complex connectivity problems.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in telecommunications or a related field is advantageous.
• Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Technician or in a similar role.
• Proficiency in fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing techniques.
• Familiarity with OTDR, fusion splicers, and other fiber optic test equipment.
• Understanding of telecommunications network infrastructure and best practices.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are essential for on-site travel.
