Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced and hands-on Farm Manager to oversee mixed agricultural operations in Welkom. The role requires strong leadership and a deep understanding of both crop and livestock management to drive daily productivity and profitability.

You will supervise staff, manage budgets, implement soil health and water management best practices, ensure health, safety and environmental compliance, and promote sustainable farming across the Free State.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years in farm management, mixed operations preferred.
• Strong knowledge of crop science and animal husbandry.
• Experience with farm machinery operation and maintenance.
• Excellent leadership and budgeting skills.

About the Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the farm, ensuring optimal productivity, efficiency, and profitability. Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage all aspects of crop production, including planting, cultivation, and harvesting.
• Oversee livestock management, ensuring animal welfare, health, and productivity.

• Develop and manage the farm's budget, controlling costs and optimizing resource allocation.
• Implement and maintain best practices for soil health, water management, and pest control.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Farm Management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a farm management role, preferably with mixed operations.
• Strong knowledge of crop science, animal husbandry, and general farming techniques.
• Experience with farm machinery operation and maintenance.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and decision‑making skills.
• Ability to manage budgets and understand financial statements.
