The successful candidate will have a degree or diploma in Agriculture or related field, 5+ years of mixed-farm experience, and strong knowledge of crop science, soil management, and animal husbandry. Housing on the farm may be provided.

About the Role

Our client, a well-established diversified agricultural operation near Welkom, Free State , is seeking a highly capable and experienced Farm Manager. This critical role involves overseeing the daily operations of a mixed farm, encompassing crop cultivation, livestock management, and general farm maintenance. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of agronomy, animal husbandry, and efficient resource management. They will be responsible for leading a team of farm workers, ensuring productivity, and upholding high standards of animal welfare and crop quality. This is a hands‑on position that requires strong leadership, excellent organizational skills, and a deep commitment to sustainable agricultural practices within the unique environment of the Free State . The successful applicant will play a key role in the continued success and growth of this significant farming enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of crop production, including planting, cultivation, pest control, and harvesting of grain and other crops.
• Oversee livestock operations, including feeding, health management, breeding programs, and ensuring welfare standards are met.
• Develop and implement efficient farm management plans and budgets.
• Supervise and coordinate the work of farm staff, providing training and performance management.
• Maintain farm equipment and infrastructure, ensuring they are in good working order and safe to operate.
• Manage inventory of supplies, feed, and harvested produce.
• Implement and monitor sustainable farming practices to conserve soil and water resources.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant agricultural regulations and safety standards.
• Record keeping of all farm activities, production, and financial data.

Requirements

• A relevant degree or diploma in Agriculture, Animal Science, or Agribusiness.
• A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in farm management, preferably in a mixed farming context.
• Strong knowledge of crop science, soil management, and livestock husbandry specific to the Free State conditions.
• Demonstrated experience in managing staff and operational teams.
