Placements24 is seeking an experienced Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in Durban to lead a maintenance team and drive reliability across a large production facility.

You will implement preventative maintenance, supervise technicians and contractors, and manage budgets while ensuring safety and environmental compliance in a fast-paced industrial setting.

Formación

• Proven supervisory experience in facilities or industrial maintenance.
• Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems.
• Experience with preventative maintenance schedules and work orders.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical manuals.
• CMMS proficiency and data-driven maintenance planning.
• Knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Willingness to base in or commute to Durban.

Responsabilidades

• Supervise daily maintenance activities of the team, including technicians and tradespeople.
• Develop and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all facility assets.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent manufacturing company in Durban , is looking for an experienced Facilities Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the upkeep and operational efficiency of their extensive production facility. This role is crucial for ensuring a safe, clean, and functional working environment for all employees. The Supervisor will lead a team of maintenance personnel, manage work schedules, and coordinate with external contractors to perform repairs and upgrades. Responsibilities include the proactive maintenance of building systems, machinery, and grounds. This position requires a hands‑on approach, strong leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of industrial maintenance practices within the Durban, KwaZulu‑Natal area. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing budgets, prioritizing tasks, and implementing preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and operational costs.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct the daily activities of the maintenance team, including technicians, electricians, and general laborers.
• Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all facility equipment and infrastructure.
• Oversee and perform routine inspections of the building, grounds, and equipment to identify and address potential issues.
• Coordinate and manage the work of external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and installations.
• Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests and ensure timely resolution.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, inventory, and equipment history.
• Manage the maintenance budget, including material procurement and labor costs, ensuring cost‑effectiveness.
• Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing training and development for the maintenance team.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing facility reliability and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a supervisory role within facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components.
• Experience with developing and managing preventative maintenance schedules and work orders.
• Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Proficiency in using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software.
• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to industrial facilities.
• Problem-solving and decision‑making abilities.
• A relevant trade qualification or technical diploma is highly preferred.
• Must be based in or able to commute reliably to Durban .
