Job summary

Headhunters in South Africa seeks an experienced Freight Forwarding Manager to lead bookings, ocean freight logistics and export documentation for citrus exports.

You will oversee the Freight Forwarding and Documentation teams, manage budgets, optimize shipping line allocations, and ensure compliance with export, customs and international trade rules.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years’ experience in shipping and freight forwarding.
• Qualification in International Trade or Clearing, Forwarding and Shipping.
• Sound knowledge of ocean freight and export documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage bookings, transport and ocean freight logistics, with exports as the primary mode of transport.
• Oversee export customs clearance and documentation up to the CIF point.
• Ensure all processes, local requirements and international protocols relating to the transportation of citrus fruit are maintained and adhered to.
• Manage the Freight Forwarding and Documentation teams.
• Prepare and manage departmental budgets and control costs.
• Accurately manage shipping line allocations in line with agreed contractual volumes.
• Explore and evaluate freight options to ensure customer product arrival dates are achieved.
• Coordinate with clients, service providers, shipping lines and relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of export and freight documentation.
• Monitor freight movements and address logistical challenges and delays.
• Ensure compliance with applicable export, customs, shipping and international trade requirements.
• Negotiate with service providers and freight partners where required.
• Manage and develop team performance to ensure operational objectives are achieved.
• Identify opportunities to improve freight processes, service delivery and cost efficiency.

Requirements:

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and service providers.
• Sound knowledge of ocean freight.
• Strong problem-solving and organisational skills.
• Proven people management and leadership skills.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of financial systems.
• Qualification in International Trade; OR
• Qualification in Clearing and Forwarding and Shipping.
• 7–10 years’ experience working in a shipping and freight forwarding environment.
• Experience in transport logistics will be advantageous.
• Experience within Freight Forwarding sales will be advantageous.
• Ability to work overtime when required.
• Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and logistics processes.
