Job summary

RPO Recruitment's client, a reputable building and civil contractor in Gauteng, seeks an experienced Estimator to join their Johannesburg team. You will extract quantities from drawings and BOQ, price tenders, and coordinate with the buying department.

The role requires a National Diploma or BTech in Civil/Quantity Surveying, 6–10 years’ Estimator experience, and solid knowledge of buildability, standards, and contract conditions (JBCC, FIDIC, NEC3).

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Building or BTech in Civil/Quantity Surveying/Construction Management or similar.
• Between 6 and 10 years’ experience as an Estimator in the construction industry.
• Solid grounding in Building and Civil Engineering practices.
• Understanding of buildability, resourcing, and programming.
• Familiar with standard contract conditions such as JBCC, FIDIC, NEC3.
• Aware of specifications in pricing and tender submissions.
• Familiar with standard methods of measurement for building and civil works.
• Conversant with Bills of Quantities for construction.
• Ability to read drawings from consultants (architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical).
• Awareness of labour and plant production figures, waste factors, safety, environmental and quality issues.

Responsibilities

• Extract materials from BOQ/drawings and compile for buying department.
• Extract subcontract packages from BOQ/drawings and compile for tendering.
• Build up worksheet rates for Direct Works (Concrete, Formwork, Brickwork, Plasterwork).
• Prepare competitive tender submissions and pricing.
• Coordinate with supply chain to issue enquiries.

Estimator Position

RPO Recruitment's client, a highly reputable building and civil contractor in Gauteng, is currently seeking a qualified Estimator to join their dynamic team in Johannesburg as soon as possible.

Requirements:

• National Diploma in Building or BTech in Civil/Quantity Surveying/Construction Management or similar
• Between 6 and 10 years’ experience working as an Estimator in the construction industry
• A solid grounding in Building and Civil Engineering practices
• A solid understanding of buildability, resourcing required, and programming
• Familiar with standard conditions of contract for building and civil engineering works such as JBCC, FIDIC, NEC3, etc.
• Aware of the importance of specifications being adhered to in the pricing and submission of tenders
• Familiar with standard methods of measurement for building and civil engineering works
• Conversant with Bills of Quantities for the construction industry
• Be able to read and understand drawings from the consultants, such as architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.
• Aware of labour and plant production figures, average waste factors, etc.
• Be aware of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality issues, in practical and costing terms
• Be aware of site conditions for working
• Be aware of dealing with the local community and any costs that this may entail
• Must be conversant with CCS “Candy” Construction Software
• Must be conversant with MS Office Suite, in particular Excel and Word
• Extract materials from BOQ / drawings and compile for the buying department in order to send out enquiries to the supply chain
• Extract subcontract packages from BOQ/drawings and compile for tender buying to send out to the supply chain
• Have a good working knowledge of building up worksheet rates for Direct Works such as Concrete, Formwork, Brickwork, and Plasterwork.
