Job summary

EF Language Abroad in Cape Town is seeking an ESL Teacher to lead General English and SPIN courses for international students. You will plan engaging lessons, use EF’s curriculum, and work under the Academic Director to support student learning and growth.

You will manage classrooms, track progress and attendance, provide feedback, and foster a positive, culturally vibrant learning environment. Prior safeguarding experience and global mobility are valued.

Qualifications

• Full fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Teaching or related field.

Overview

EF Language Abroad, Cape Town Campus seeks an ESL Teacher to lead classes of international students using EF’s curriculum and blended learning approach, working under the Academic Director and with the Academic department.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare lessons: Deliver engaging General English and Special Interest (SPIN) courses that meet the diverse needs of international students.
• Inspire language learning: Create interactive, immersive, and meaningful classroom experiences that bring language to life.
• Academic administration: Track student attendance, assess progress, and provide regular feedback to support each student’s learning journey.
• Classroom management: Foster a positive, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment where students feel safe, motivated, and empowered to participate.
• School Spirit: Encourage students to get involved beyond classroom lessons, helping them connect through activities, events, and cultural exchanges.
• Safeguarding and Welfare: Prioritize the well-being and safety of students, following EF’s safeguarding policies, and respond to issues as needed.
• Professional Development: Stay up to date with ESL teaching practices, integrating innovative methods and technology to support learning and growth.

Qualifications

• Full fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
• All additional languages are a plus.
• Minimum two years of experience as an ESL Teacher.
• Experience with safeguarding and student welfare is preferred.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills to support a dynamic student community (participation varies from two weeks to one year).
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Teaching or related field.
• TEFL Level 5 and/or CELTA/DELTA or equivalent qualification.
• Experience living, working, or studying abroad is a plus.
• Full working rights in South Africa.
