Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Scientist to manage and monitor environmental performance at mining operations near Mossel Bay, Western Cape. The role focuses on regulatory compliance, sustainable practices, and minimizing ecological impact through EIAs, EMPs, and rehabilitation oversight.

You will develop and implement EMPs, conduct baseline studies, monitor waste and water quality, prepare compliance reports, and engage with regulators and communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within mining or industrial sectors.
• Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting processes.
• Experience with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and management systems.
• Proficiency in data analysis and environmental reporting tools.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct environmental baseline studies, impact assessments, and monitoring programs.
• Develop, implement, and manage Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for mining sites.
• Oversee waste management, water quality monitoring, and rehabilitation activities.
• Ensure compliance with national and local environmental legislation and permit conditions.
• Prepare environmental reports, including monitoring results, audit findings, and compliance statements.
• Engage with regulators and local communities on environmental matters.
