Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Scientist for our Mossel Bay mining operations. You will manage environmental performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive sustainable practices across site activities.

The role involves conducting EIAs, developing EMPs and overseeing rehabilitation efforts, with a focus on minimizing ecological impact and promoting responsible mining practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field.
• 4+ years in environmental management, mining preferred.
• Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting processes.
• Experience with EIAs and environmental management systems.
• Proficient in data analysis and environmental reporting tools.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct baseline studies, impact assessments and monitoring programs.
• Develop, implement and manage Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
• Oversee waste management, water quality monitoring and rehabilitation activities.
• Ensure compliance with national and local environmental laws and permit conditions.
• Prepare environmental reports including monitoring results and compliance statements.
• Engage with regulators and local communities on environmental matters.
