Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking an Environmental Engineer to lead the environmental function on a major infrastructure programme in Manchester. The role focuses on regulatory compliance, permit management, and environmental risk mitigation across high-hazard environments.

You will advise project teams on water management, monitoring, and reporting, while coordinating with regulators and external partners to ensure permits are in place and environmental controls are effective.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' environmental management experience in a regulated or high-hazard environment.
• Experience obtaining environmental permits and working with regulatory authorities.
• Strong knowledge of water management and pollution prevention.
• Background in monitoring, reporting and data analysis.
• Experience managing environmental incidents and corrective actions.
• Environmental degree (BSc/MSc) and ILM 5 or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental function across a major infrastructure programme.
• Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permit requirements.
• Provide expert advice on environmental risk management and water management.
• Support project teams in implementing the SHE Management System.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to secure permits and maintain regulatory compliance.
• Drive continuous improvement in environmental performance and reporting.
• Deliver environmental training and support to project teams.
• Lead environmental incident investigations and ensure lessons learned are shared.
• Analyze environmental data and produce reports to support project performance.
• Contribute to sustainability and environmental improvement initiatives.
