Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the South African curriculum for English language and literature.
• Assess and evaluate student progress through various formative and summative assessment methods.
• Encourage and facilitate student participation in class discussions, debate, and creative writing exercises.
• Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that addresses the diverse learning needs of students.
• Provide constructive feedback to students regularly, helping them set and achieve academic goals.
• Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary projects that integrate English with other subjects.
• Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student performance and progress.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training to enhance teaching practices and stay current with educational trends.

Requirements

• A recognized teaching qualification in English or a related field, such as a Bachelor of Arts in English or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.
• Demonstrable experience teaching English at the intermediate phase (Grades 6-8) within the South African education system.
• Strong understanding of the South African National Curriculum and assessment practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students and parents effectively.
• Proven track record of using innovative teaching methods to engage and inspire students.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute positively to the school community.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with teaching English as a second language or additional language learners.
• Certification in teaching English language and literature beyond initial qualifications.
• Familiarity with digital tools and resources for enhancing classroom learning.
