Job summary

Mventech Group in Centurion, South Africa, seeks an Engineer - Bulk Materials Handling to design, optimise conveyors, stockpiles, and related systems across mining sites. You will translate process requirements into reliable, safe plant layouts and contribute to project design reviews.

You will collaborate with structural, mechanical and civil teams, perform capacity calculations, review drawings, and support procurement and commissioning to ensure on-site performance and reduced downtime.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in mechanical or mining engineering (BEng or BSc Eng).
• Minimum 3 years' experience in bulk materials handling design within mining/minerals processing.
• Experience on mining projects, including underground operations.
• Knowledge of conveyor design principles and materials handling standards.
• Proficiency in engineering design and simulation software.

Responsibilities

• Design bulk materials handling systems (conveyors, transfer chutes, crushers, screens, stockpiles).
• Perform materials handling calculations for capacity, throughput and sizing.
• Prepare and review drawings, specs and reports for bulk handling infra.
• Evaluate material flow and impact on chute design.
• Coordinate with structural, mechanical, and civil disciplines for integrated design solutions.
• Support procurement via technical evaluation of equipment tenders.
• Provide input during construction and commissioning to resolve field queries.
• Identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce spillage and downtime.

The Opportunity

As an Engineer - Bulk Materials Handling, you will design and optimise systems that move, store, and process bulk materials across mining and minerals processing sites. From conveyor networks to stockpile management, your work will directly determine plant throughput and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Design bulk materials handling systems, including conveyors, transfer chutes, crushers, screens, and stockpiles.
• Conduct materials handling calculations to confirm system capacity, throughput, and equipment sizing.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and design reports for bulk materials handling infrastructure.
• Evaluate material flow properties and their impact on chute and transfer point design.
• Coordinate with structural, mechanical, and civil disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Support procurement through technical evaluation of bulk materials handling equipment tenders.
• Provide technical input during construction and commissioning to resolve site-based design queries.
• Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, reduce spillage, and minimise downtime.

You must have:

• A Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc Eng) in mechanical or mining engineering.
• A minimum of three years' experience in bulk materials handling design within a mining or minerals processing environment.
• Demonstrable experience working on mining projects, including underground mining operations.
• Working knowledge of conveyor design principles and relevant materials handling standards.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering design and simulation software.

It would advantage you to have:

• Registration as a Candidate Engineer or Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• Experience with discrete element modelling (DEM) for material flow analysis.
• Exposure to EPCM project delivery environments.
