Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Adult Day Care Program Facilitator in Upington to design and lead engaging daily activities for adults, including those with special needs or elderly participants.

The ideal candidate will have a background in social care or related fields and possess strong interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy to foster social interaction and well-being within the center.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Social Work, Gerontology, Recreation Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in facilitating programs for adults, seniors, or individuals with special needs.
• Strong understanding of adult development and social engagement principles.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and activity planning skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards working with diverse groups of adults.
• Ability to manage group dynamics and encourage participation.
• Basic knowledge of record-keeping and reporting.
• Physical ability to assist participants as needed.
• Familiarity with the Upington area and local resources is beneficial.
• A valid driver's license may be required for occasional community outings.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and facilitate a diverse range of daily activities, including arts and crafts, games, exercise, educational programs, and social events.
• Ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
• Assess the needs and interests of participants to tailor program activities accordingly.
• Encourage active participation and social interaction among attendees.
• Provide support with personal care needs as required, maintaining dignity and respect.
• Assist with the serving of meals and snacks, ensuring dietary needs are met.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and document participant engagement and progress.
• Communicate effectively with participants, their families, and the program management.
• Collaborate with other staff members to ensure smooth operation of the day care center.
• Uphold the organization's standards of care and promote a positive atmosphere.
