Job summary

Sabenza IT & Recruitment in Pretoria is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to drive the Delphi migration and modernisation of legacy code for traffic monitoring and control systems.

You will work alongside the Embedded Systems Engineer, translating requirements into reliable software and contributing to the full product lifecycle from design through deployment. Strong Delphi skills and familiarity with C/C++, RTOS, and AI-assisted tooling are essential.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in CS or related engineering.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in Delphi (Object Pascal) or ability to read/maintain Delphi codebases.
• Experience with C and/or other modern languages (C++, Rust, Python, Go).
• Knowledge of AI-assisted coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude).
• Familiarity with RTOS and multithreaded design.
• Version control and software configuration management knowledge.
• Embedded software development principles and low-level coding expertise.
• Ability to migrate Delphi codebases to modern languages.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, document, implement and maintain software components.
• Work with Delphi codebase and evaluate modern languages and toolchains.
• Manage build pipelines and automated tests with compiler toolchains.
• Write clean, well-documented code and refactor legacy Delphi.
• Collaborate with Embedded Systems Engineer for hardware-software integration.
• Conduct software reviews and integration testing for end-to-end functionality.
• Develop unit/integration/system tests and support continuous release processes.
• Create clear design docs, specifications, and user guides.
